Privacy Policy
Effective 1 October 2026
In short
- Your check-ins are private to your account. We don't sell them, show ads, or use tracking cookies.
- We use Google's cloud services (Firebase and Vertex AI) to run the app. Your check-ins are stored in Sydney, Australia.
- The AI "second view" only runs when you tap it, and only that check-in is sent.
- You can export everything, edit or delete any check-in, and delete your account, which deletes all your data.
1. Who we are
Feelings by Find My Way is run by Patternode in New Zealand ("we", "us"). We're responsible for the personal information you give the app. Questions or requests: privacy@patternode.com.
We follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. If you're in the European Union or United Kingdom, we also aim to meet the GDPR, and the rights in section 9 apply to you.
2. What we collect
When you create an account
- Email address and name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google. We don't receive your Google password.
- Password. Managed by Google's Firebase Authentication. We never see or store it in readable form.
When you use the app
- Check-ins: the feelings you pick, when they happened, when you logged them, your notes, your reflection answers, and any "second view" you choose to keep.
- Your values and settings, such as appearance.
- Imported history, if you import a file from another app.
- A daily count of second views you've used, so we can apply the daily limit.
Technical information
When your device talks to our services, Google's systems process your IP address, browser and device details, and request logs. These are used to deliver the service, keep it secure and prevent abuse. We don't use analytics or advertising trackers.
3. How we use it
- To run your account and sync your check-ins across your devices.
- To produce a second view when you ask for one.
- To send account emails: confirming your address and resetting your password. We don't send marketing emails.
- To keep the service secure, enforce limits and fix problems.
We don't sell your information, use it for advertising, or build profiles of you for anyone else.
4. Your check-ins are sensitive, and we treat them that way
Check-ins describe how you feel and can touch on your health and relationships. We use them only to provide the app to you. Our access rules let only your signed-in account read or change them. Like any operator of a cloud service, we can technically access the database with administrator tools. We only do so if you ask us to (for example, to help with a problem), to keep the service running safely, or if the law requires it.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Google. It is not end-to-end encrypted, which means the service can read it in order to sync it and produce second views.
5. The "second view" (AI)
When you tap Get a second view, we send that one check-in to Google's Vertex AI (a Gemini model). That includes the feelings, note, reflection answers, your values and your first name. The reply comes back to you, and it's stored only if you save the check-in. Under Google Cloud's terms, Google doesn't use this content to train its models. Nothing is sent to the AI unless you tap the button.
A second view is generated by a computer. It can be wrong, and it isn't advice from a professional.
6. Who handles your information
We use Google LLC and its affiliates to run the app, under Google Cloud's data processing terms:
| Service | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication | Sign-in, account emails | Google's global infrastructure |
| Cloud Firestore | Stores your profile and check-ins | Sydney, Australia |
| Cloud Functions | Second view, account deletion | Iowa, United States |
| Vertex AI (Gemini) | Writes second views | Iowa, United States |
| Firebase Hosting | Serves the app | Google's global network |
| Google Fonts | Supplies the app's fonts (sees your IP address) | Google's global network |
Because some of these are outside New Zealand, your information is disclosed overseas. We rely on Google's contractual commitments to protect it in a way comparable to the New Zealand Privacy Act. We'll only share your information with anyone else if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or with your permission.
7. What's stored on your device
- Your sign-in session, so you stay signed in.
- An offline copy of your check-ins, so the app works without a connection. Signing out removes it from that device.
- Your appearance setting, and, briefly, any feelings you picked in the demo before signing up.
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your information until you delete it. Deleting a check-in removes it straight away. Settings → Delete account permanently deletes your login and everything stored under your account. Google may hold short-lived logs and system backups for a limited time under its own policies before they are erased. If an account sits unused for a long time, we may contact you before deciding whether to remove it.
9. Your rights
- See your information: Settings → Export downloads all of it, or ask us.
- Correct it: edit any check-in, your name or your values in the app, or ask us.
- Delete it: delete check-ins or your whole account in the app, or ask us.
- In the EU or UK, you can also object to or restrict processing and ask for your data in a portable format (the export already is).
Email privacy@patternode.com and we'll respond within 20 working days. If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand, or your local data protection authority.
10. Children
Feelings by Find My Way is for people aged 16 and over. If you think a younger person has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information in a meaningful way, for example if we add paid plans or a new service provider, we'll update this page and tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
